Fresh produce is priced on supply rather than promotion, so genuine half price fruit and vegetables in the catalogue are less common than in packaged categories. When they appear it is usually because there is a glut of a particular line, which is also when the produce is at its best and cheapest.

Buy to a plan. Produce is the single biggest source of household food waste in Australia, and a discount that ends up in the bin is not a saving. Root vegetables, apples, citrus and pumpkins keep for weeks; berries, leafy greens and stone fruit do not. If you are buying a discounted bulk quantity, decide before you leave the shop whether you are freezing it, cooking it down, or eating it this week.
